Job Duties for Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor:
- Mentor and lead lab personnel while promoting collaboration and positivity
- Manage all aspects of lab operations (such as scheduling, inventory, and quality control)
- Use traditional and advanced testing methods (e.g., real-time PCR) to analyze food, water, and environmental samples for pathogens and indicators
- Collaborate with clients to deliver results, answer technical queries, and ensure they have necessary testing materials
- Enhance processes for improved efficiency and accuracy in test result turnaround
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC standards and maintain high-quality documentation
- Deliver regular lab performance reports and growth opportunities to Director of Microbiology and VP of Operations
- Manage budgeting and forecasting for lab operations
- Support technical staff across U.S. and Mexico for consistent quality and efficiency
- Work with other departments to explore cross-promotion and business development opportunities
- Identify and implement process enhancements to boost quality and customer satisfaction
- Partner with sales and marketing to identify business growth and client development opportunities
- Provide training and mentorship to promote team professional growth
- Occasionally travel to satellite labs for coverage and supplemental training
- Follow all policies and safety procedures in place
- Completes any other related tasks as needed
Qualifications and Desired Skills for Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor:
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field with lab experience
- 2+ years managing 5+ person lab teams, including budgeting & forecasting
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Excellent communication (written & verbal, Spanish a plus)
- Proven leadership, problem-solving, and team development
- Business-minded collaboration to grow lab services
- Excellent organizational skills, flexible schedule, adaptable to travel
- Ability to stoop, bend, squat, kneel, twist and reach
