Luttrell Staffing Group: Human Resource Generalist will focus on Payroll and Compliance 

Location:  San Luis Obispo, California (supporting San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Salinas, and Watsonville offices) 
Pay: $25-$28 per hour 
Minimum of 2 years HR/Payroll experience required 
Reports to: Human Resource Manager 
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

The HR Generalist will travel to Luttrell Staffing Group headquarters in Tennessee to train for two weeks. Once reporting back to CA, they will travel to work with Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, and Salinas to understand the onboarding. After training, the HR Generalist will be based in the Watsonville, CA office. 

Human Resource Generalist

The HR Generalist will submit weekly payroll and manage state and federal compliance for the assigned branches. They maintain current knowledge of appropriate policies, processes, and procedures to ensure the efficiency and integrity of the assigned branches.


  • Collect, document, and enter associate time 
  • Ensure time is reported with lunch out/lunch return punches 
  • Maintain accurate records and pay appropriate meal break violations. Work with branches and clients as needed to ensure compliance. 
  • Manage all payroll corrections, advances, and requests for invoice corrections 
  • Audit associate timecards for accurate calculations before submitting payment 
  • Assist in the collection process for any past due balances in CA 
  • Assist branch managers with branch scorecards, as needed for payroll data information. (Customer Tab, Weekly Data for hours, and President’s Club Tab) 
  • Track and manage preventative harassment training, including notifying branches when the associate needs training, recertification, and payment for training  
  • Track and audit sick leave eligibility and payment, to include SPSL 
  • Audit 10 newly assigned employee files weekly to ensure all onboarding is complete 
  • Report on ongoing payroll and compliance with the RD and COO 
  • Audit 5 customer files monthly to ensure we are delivering as promised on our proposals 
  • Audit 1 advertisement per branch each week to ensure compliance with wage transparency requirements 
  • Conduct bi-annual poster audits 
  • Excellent working knowledge of employment law: State and Federal 
  • Assist with staff training needs as deemed necessary by HR 
  • Manage unemployment claims, submit responses, and coordinate with the branches to minimize liability 
  • Track and audit associate insurance missing forms 
  • Occasional overnight travel to assigned branches 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) 

 Key Performance Indicators and Attributes:


  • 100% of time reported includes lunch out/lunch return
  • All meal violations are addressed with associate and client, whichever is appropriate.
  • 99% accuracy with associate time entry – minimize advances
  • Complete required audits:
  • 10 associate files weekly
  • 5 customer files monthly
  • 1 advertisement per branch weekly
  • Ensure 95% compliance in all required audits or document timebound plan to meet this goal
  • Respond to all UE inquiries within 24 hours 
  • Submit weekly compliance reports
  • Work with branches/RDs/COO to move branches towards 95% compliance or better
  • Coordinate with associates or branch staff to obtain any missing information/documentation
  • Excellent communication skills, displaying professional etiquette, both verbal and written
  • Excellent computer skills, including competency in Microsoft applications 
  • Respond well to pressure and maintain a positive demeanor 
  • Strategic problem-solving and decision-making
  • Initiative to assist team members without direction
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks promptly 
  • Work responsibly with or without supervision
  • Meet continuing education and certification requirements, including but not limited to attending law seminars, compliance, and payroll training. 
  • Maintain a valid drivers license

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily sedentary work that involves sitting/standing/bending/twisting/kneeling
  • Ability to read and write in English and Spanish
  • Occasional driving and overnight travel
